The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: Rethink Your Thinking!

“Besides the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept as we thought of Jerusalem, For our captors demanded a song from us…But how can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a pagan land?"
PSALMS 137: 1-4
Title: Rethinking Living & Eating Better
As we can tell, persons were concerned about being held captive in Exile in a foreign place. Persons were weeping bitterly about this place. Our sorrow, at times, can make it difficult to even imagine completing enjoyable tasks. In this scripture above, The Israelites of Jerusalem (descendants of Jacob) were eventually captured by the strong Babylonian army. The Israelites had relatives (the Edomites, descendants of Esau) that lived nearby in the town of Edom. They were very proud people believing in their own power and not the power of God. They hated the Israelites. In fact, the Edomites did not come to help their relatives in time of need at the capture. Instead, they rejoiced when the city was destroyed. Later God destroyed Edom. In Jeremiah 49:16 it says, “You have been deceived by your own pride”.
We here at Med-Life-Fit encourage you not to rely solely upon yourself during your lifestyle change. It’s tough and challenging to change old habits and behaviors, physically and spiritually. You have to reach deep down and pull those character qualities called courage, planning and perseverance. Edom was destroyed because of its pride. Pride destroys nations as well as individuals. It falsely makes us thinks we can take care of situations by ourselves. Ask God to point out and remove any pride that is present.
