THE WORD FOR THE WEEK
Title: Trustworthy or Loyalty 6/4/2017
“It is foolish to belittle a friend, a person with good sense remains quiet” Proverbs 11:13 (NLT)
Today’s Word for the Week is taken from the book of Wisdom. Another translation of the above verse says, “Those who are trustworthy can keep a word in confidence”. So, then the counter to this statement would say, “There must be friends that will not keep a word in confidence”. In life my friend, the bible tells us, those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence but keep in mind 3 points:
1. Make sure the person you trust in isn’t confiding in persons you don’t trust
2. Bad news is often remembered over all the good you’ve done
3. Be careful who advises you (…the counsel of the wicked are deceitful see Proverbs 12)
There are many sources of wisdom in this world. The bible says Wisdom that is pure comes from above; it’s is peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy… James 3:17.
So, then the question becomes: What’s the difference between trustworthy and loyalty?
The definition of “Trustworthy is the ability to be relied on as truthful, dependable, as good as one’s word; take what is said in words and keep it confidential. Loyalty is basically someone who will stand beside you no matter what that word is. For example, if your friend does something which you do not approve of, if you are loyal to that friend you will tell them that you do not approve but will also stand right beside that friend as they live through the consequences. If you are trustworthy yet not loyal, for example, your friend may tell you something and tell you to keep it a secret. You will keep the secret in confidence yet shun the friend as you do not agree with what they said. However, if you are a loyal and trustworthy friend, you will stand by your friend even if you do not like what they told you. (Paraphrased from the Wellness Network).
Maximus Orillius from Gladiator said, “what we do in this life echoes in Eternity”
We, at MED-LIFE-Fit encourage you to cherish character traits of trustworthiness and loyalty. When Job lost everything, almost everyone avoided him. When Jesus came to save all mankind, even His disciples left Him in His darkest hour. It’s good to control your mouth, thoughts and focus. Silence can never be misquoted.
