Securing your Soul and Spirit

THE WORD FOR THE WEEK

Title: Securing your Soul and Spirit 5/21/2017

“Those who trust in the Lord are as Secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever…O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you!”

Psalm125:1-5 (NLT)

Psalms 120-135 were “songs” written to be very short. Historically, these songs were repeated during Jewish ceremonies as they ascended 15 steps going from the outward court to the inner court of the Tabernacle during worship many years ago. Collectively they are called Psalms of Ascent and Psalms 125 is the sixth of the fifth teen. Some conjectured that during different stages of the journey, there were different degrees or experiences they were going through.

David had an opportunity to harm and kill a man who was actively trying to harm and kill him, who was King Saul. One night, David ended up in a camp of sleeping soldiers which happened to be that of King Saul’s. While Saul’s men were yet sleeping, David came close enough to cut a piece of King Saul’s apparel, yet not wake him. He hurriedly left the camp with the piece of cloth to prove later that he was that close to him. David was wise enough to know it was not right to strike down the man, God had placed on the throne. It later could have set precedent for his own opponents to remove him one day. David also realizes punishment is up to GOD. 1 Sam 24:12 says “May the Lord Judge between us; Perhaps the Lord will punish you and not me…”. Roman 13:1-7 teaches us that God placed our government and its leaders in power in places of authority. We may not know why, but like David, we are to respect people in positions of authority and the roles that God has given them. One exception: Because God is our highest authoritarian; we should not allow a leader to pressure us to violate God’s law.

Do you feel trapped in a situation? Do you feel overwhelmed by a situation? Are you seeking God’s protection? No problem is beyond hope with God. David felt that way living in and out of caves and mountains in the dark running from a man who was trying to kill him who happened also to be a King!

Just remember, Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as tall trees. We’ve got to remember to be stable and still. Zechariah 2:5 tells us “God will protect His people”. Psalm 121:8 says, “The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life both now and forever”. Psalms 46:5 says, “Where God dwells, it can’t be destroyed!

We, at
