The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: Changing Your Behaviors

“Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit” Romans 8:5 (NLT)
Starting everyday reading the Bible (THE WORD FOR THE DAY) is the best way the change behaviors. The Word helps you to avoid deceit, discouragement, and deception. It gives you the confidence to echo…I AM VICTORIUS TODAY. Taking 30 minutes every morning, laying aside our own desires, putting all our energy and resources at His disposal, trusting God to guide us, will allow God to bless us.
However, we must go deeper than just changing behaviors. Romans 12:2 says, “Let God Transform you into a new creature by changing the way you think”. We must change our approach to thinking and redirect it toward the way Christ would think. There are people with Diabetes for example and refuse to eat right or have high blood pressure and refuse regularly to monitor it. We may change our behavior sometime, but revert back to bad habits. There are those who change their behavior and still are proud, selfish, stubborn and arrogant. Colossians 3:3 says “Our real life is hidden with Christ in God” Could this be why we are neither satisfied physically nor spiritually because we are hungry for “our real life”? Could this explain high rates of depression, lusts, anxieties, etc. What is life? Once we have said yes to Jesus, we want to continue to follow him, because His way brings life and peace!

In every perplexing situation ask yourself, “What would Jesus want me to do?” and watch the Holy Spirit guide you. Take control of your mind and use God’s mighty weapons to fight against the enemy’s weapons.
