The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe

“I asked my brethren who had returned from captivity, how are things going at home in Jerusalem? ...things are not going well for those who returned. They are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates destroyed by fire. I then sat down, wept, fasted and prayed to God of heaven. I admit we have sinned by not obeying... I said, “Please remember what you told Moses, “that if you are unfaithful, I will scatter you. But, if you return to me and obey my commands and live by them, then I will bring back to you the place I have chosen for my name to be honored”
Nehemiah 1:2-8
God’s Promises to Restore
Nehemiah was working for the King in a position that afforded him a comfortable and wealthy lifestyle in a city away from his homeland of Jerusalem. After a 3 month journey home, he found a defenseless city and a disorganized group of homefolks. After prayer, Nehemiah took the leadership role that required lots of planning, hard work, courage and perseverance to rebuild the walls to protect the homeland. Nehemiah had compassion on the whole situation.
When we get in alignment with God’s purpose, then God honors himself and will honor the purpose through blessings. Nehemiah knew that the Holy city of Jerusalem was blessed with God’s special presence in the temple and the re-establishment of walls was as important as a protective police force is to a city.
What does this say to you? What is your calling of purpose? Does it line up with God’s purpose? A good indication might be a life symbolizing strength and peace.
