The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: Living the Example

“Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from faraway lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, ‘Where is the newborn king of the Jews?’ …we have come to worship him…They entered the house…worshiped him…and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. After finding Jesus and worshipping him, they returned home a different way” Matthew 2:1-12 (NLT)
We have all heard the story of the “Wise Men” in the birth of baby Jesus. But, where did they come from? Could it have been more than three wise men? Some say they were scholars, representing the whole world bowing down before the Messiah, King over the wor
ld! Alas! Wise Men are living examples who Worship. Most of God’s chosen people during that time did not worship God as God had told them to do. Interesting…Does that sound like today? We expect God to search for us. God is looking for the heart searching for that authentic relationship with him, like the WISE MEN.
Isaiah 55:6 says, “Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.”
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
When the Wise men got there to worship Jesus, they brought expensive gifts. When was the last time you gave God something you sacrificed for? or was expensive? They bought gold for Royalty, frankincense for Divine God, and myrrh used to anoint a body for burial. God asks us to tithe, remember? (Malachi 3:10). Put God to the test! Jesus came and died to save us but also to bless us (Acts 3:26). Think, I will worship God because he is the Almighty Creator, perfect one and worthy to get the best you can give. Once you find him, you won’t be the same. Even the wise men, went home not the same way after worshipping him.
