The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: The Choice is Yours

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live. You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob” Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NLT)
In Deuteronomy 27, Moses enables the people to envision the future after considering the consequences of obedience verses disobedience. They were preparing to enter the land that God had promised to bless them with years before. Most had never seen the miracles God had performed in the lives of their parents and grandparents. After all, they had wondered in the wilderness for 40 years because of disobedience. Some of us today will wonder 20 to 30 or 40 to 60 years in wilderness before our eyes are opened. The choice is yours!
The people needed fresh inspiration like we need some fresh revelation of God’s Word also from time to time. Moses wanted the people to know there is a blessing from the Lord if they would grow in their knowledge of the Lord, trust his holy name, and obey His commands. What better way to start an authentic relationship with the Lord than by growing and reading the WORD daily? It has an satiable filling of the appetite no matter what the soul thirst for or is in need of…the Psalmist (23) put it like this…..
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need, He lets me rest at night and leads me along peace; He renews my strength and guides me al
ong right paths because my paths Honor Him...He is always close beside me”
God’s words call us to be obedient. His laws are right, reasonable, sensible, restorative, merciful, healing, wealthy and beneficial. The reason most of us will not be obedient for long periods of time or at any time….is…ourselves. We could rectify the problem by just simply deciding to start now.
Look in the mirror…tell yourself this is a New Year and I will start everyday reading God’s Word with an open heart, seeking to find the Truth, the way and the light! You may ask, what is the incentive for me? You get LIFE in its fullest!
