The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: Dream Big!

For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed. Now…when Jericho is conquered you will let me live along with my family...Joshua 2:10-12 (NLT)

Someone great once said, “Faith allows you to live beyond yourself”. Joshua was a successive strategist with the following skills of optimism, realism, anticipatory conflict, effective communication and ethical reasoning. At this time in the scripture, Joshua was charged by God to lead the Children of Israel into the “Promised Land” of Canaan. Anticipatory conflict and guidance skills were used by Joshua as he sent spies ahead to get strategic information about the city. Joshua wanted to use wisdom and uphold responsibility to God in leading the people. Who would have thought the spies would have lodged at Rahab, (a prostitute’s), house? However, she did live in a conveniently built house right within the wall surrounding the city which would lead to a quick and convenient route of escape. But, could there be another reason that the spies ended up at the prostitute’s house. God in all of his sovereign will and desire knew about Rahab’s heart. Many would assume that a prostitute would care less about the Lord, yet she was willing to risk everything on a God she had barely heard about (see above scripture).

She believed that God was really powerful!

She believed that God can save people from death!

Imagine how pleased the Lord God would be if more believers had a heart like Rahab. Rahab believed that the Lord God is an all-powerful God! After all, he had save the Israelites from death by the Egyptians and from dying in the Red Sea by allowing them to cross it on dry land without dying. She also believed that God created her with a will and a divine destiny. She just didn’t stand by but she spoke up! We have small dreams but God has great futures for us, infinitely more than we can ever ask or think! (Jeremiah 29:11; Ephesians 3:20). Rahab got the memo! She has a great and rich future! A prostitute published in the wisest book known and is a relative in the heritage line of a King! (Hebrew 11:31)
