The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: What are we most fearful of losing?

The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear… Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.Luke 12:2-3; 21 (NLT)

As a Board Certified Family practice doctor for nearly 20 years, I have seen lots of patients who come to me worried sick. This reminds me of a patient who for the sake of anonymity will be called James. James had everything going for himself. He was the top sales manager in the region, supportive housewife whose only job was to support him, successful working adult kids, grandchildren, nice secluded neighborhood, several sport cars, utility vehicles, golf memberships, rental properties and a wardrobe to match for himself, wife and kids. He was just living the life. He also successfully played the stock market. But, when I met him, he had no job, living in a rented apartment, wife had divorced him and of his kids, it was only the grandkids who would speak to him on the phone. He broke a sobriety for over 12 years that spiraled out of control in one afternoon, and because of his handicap, he could not keep up with the rigor of stress that eventually ended his life. Sad.

The bible says it like this. Jesus criticized The Pharisees and religious experts because they washed their outside but not their hearts and they would not accept the truth about Jesus. Luke 11:40 says Fools! Didn’t God make the inside as well as the outside… give justice and give gifts to the poor and you will be clean all over.”

In the above scripture, the issue is Hypocrisy which is knowing the truth but not obeying it. People say they are Christians but are not obedient to His Word, and don’t read it daily. Hypocrisy is living for yourself, be seen in front of folks but lack a willing attitude to serve others. People in the world can distinctly sense it and use it as an excuse to stay away from God and the church. Let us all look over our imperfect selves. God help us!

God does not forget a single sparrow. We’re more valuable than a whole flock Every hair on our head is numbered. Lk 12:7.
