The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: Running the Race

Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. Let us hold tightly…to the hope…God can be trusted to keep His promise.” Hebrew 10:22-23 (NLT)

John C. Maxwell has said that perseverance is essential to finish well. We must pace ourselves and endure to the end and finish well. Why? Confidence is rewarded, Obedience is recognized and Shrinking-back is regretted. Yet, our faith walk along this journey is a marathon not a sprint. A marathon is a long lasting difficult task taking 4 hrs to run and 8+ hrs to walk. The Marathon story stems from a Greek soldier named Pheidippides who ran 25 miles from the Battle of Marathon to Athens to announce the victory of the Greeks over the Persians in 490 BC. Unfortunately, upon his arrival he collapsed and died. In his honor, the 1st organized Marathon was held there in 1896, and the distance standardized to 26.21875 miles in1921. As of 2013, 541,000 people run marathons annually in the US. Mini marathons are 13.1 miles and take 2 hours to run and 4 hours to walk which were coined first in NY in 1972. The largest is the Women’s Dublin mini marathon which 600,000 people run annually.

Wow! I wonder what kind of world would we be living in if we had that many running to make disciples? After all, we do call ourselves Christians and that is what we are supposed to do, right?

Nonetheless, God can be trusted to keep His promise to us and Christ’s return will be celebrated. And because Christ died for our sins, we may walk into the presence of God at any time. Of course, we evaluate our thoughts and motives and come with prayer and pure worship. Verse 25 also commands us not to forsake the coming together to fellowship with each other. As difficulties arise, we should make even greater efforts to faithfully attend church. The laundry, kid’s activities, school, work, pains, and everything else that is going on in your life should not be the excuse every time. The imagery of our bodies in the scripture above “having been washed in pure water” is simulating an inward cleaning.

We at MED-LIFE-FIT focus on Primary Care and Lifestyle Changes. Our trademark utilizes the “BENS” Theory Model. We help you shed excessive abnormal body tissue that causes disfigurement, fatigued and chronic diseases. The “S” in BENS stands for spiritual. Your inner spirit can be addressed in this doctor’s office to decrease the phenomenon of Spiritual Heart Disease, yet another chronic disease. It is real! Abnormal tissue comes off the outer parts. Focus on the inner as well. We also have evening support group classes.
