The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: Meeting You Where You Are!

The Holy Spirit said to Phillip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage...So, beginning with this same Scripture, Phillip told him the Good News about Jesus.” Acts 9:29-35 (NLT)

Jesus announces his Kingdom by both preaching and healing, and in New Testament time, he sent out his disciples and later his apostles to do the same. Likewise, He sends us out Today to do the same. Jesus good news is both for the soul and the body. He did not limit himself to do just preaching; For people would see his Kingdom as spiritual only; He did not limit himself to only healing; For people would miss spiritual discernment. Everyone who claims to do you good and heal you of evil spirits may not be of God, as we see in Acts 8:9-13 (Simon, the sorcerer who claimed to be Great-the Power of God who later converted to follow a traveling missionary named Phillip, who had spiritual discernment).

Phillip’s story is told in Acts 8: 5-40. He worked to distribute food in the early church; a careful student who explained the Good News of Jesus with clarity; Many evil spirits were casts out where folks were healed from many diseases, many women and men were baptized.

Today we must believe in the message of the Kingdom of God through Jesus. The bible tells us in Matt. 10:1 “Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness”. After the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, the bible tells us in Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people everywhere…in Judea, in Samaria…” The bible tells us as Christians we have access to this same Holy Spirit power. Ephesians 1:13 says “And now you Gentiles heard the truth, the Good News when you believe Christ, he identifies you…by giving you the Holy Spirit”. Phillip understood this power and went directly to Samaria-the last place many Jews would go due to age-old prejudices. He understood his God-sent assignment which changed history and substantiated that God’s plan is for everyone. Jesus love meets you where you are! Believe in your Healing!
