The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: WORK IT OUT!

“Dear friends, you always followed my instructions…Now I am away, it is even more important. WORK HARD to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and POWER to do what pleases HIM…Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you…shine like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people…Hold firm to the WORD of Life” Philippians 2:12-16 (NLT)
A few blogs ago, we introduced the Apostle Paul (a converted Jew) who was writing a letter while imprisoned in Rome for preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This letter was not meant for general circulation to all churches but rather written to the church in Philippi after developing a deep relationship with members there consisting mostly of Gentiles (non-Jewish believers). The focus of today’s blog and likewise Paul’s focus to the Philippians in Macedonia is featuring “Unity in the Spirit” brings “Joy in Serving”. Philippians is Paul’s joy book because it emphasizes the real joy of the Christian life. Even though he was in prison, (even though we have problems and challenges), the real joy comes from knowing Jesus Christ in a deep relationship. Paul put it like this in Chapter 3:8-10, “Yes, everything is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ…I want to know Christ and experience the same POWER that raised Christ from the dead (Wow!), I have discarded everything else (Wow times 2!) counting it as garbage so I can come one with him.”
What do you do when you don’t feel like obeying?
In those moments, God has not left you alone. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other (1 Corin. 12:6-7). Let someone spiritual help you! The secret to a changing life is to ask Him to help you desire to do His will and He gives you the power. Luke 12:32 says “So don’t be afraid, little flock (i.e. us). For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom”. The Greek work for Kingdom is Basileia which means a royalty rule or realm of reign. We have a royalty realm of reign that surrounds us. Your Father, the creator of everything wants to give you a covering always and forever. So continue to Work It Out, read the holy Word daily, work harder for a deep relationship with God and walk with faithful confidence. We are Queens and Kings!
