The Weekly Word with Dr. Dowe: It's the Season to Plant

Listen, a farmer went out to plant some seeds in 4 types of soil and while sowing…some fell on a footpath, but birds came and ate them away; some fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. It sprouted but had no root so wilted away under the hot sun; Other seed fell among thorns that grew up and choked the plant so produce no grain; Still other seeds fell on fertile soil and sprouted, grew and produced a crop that was 30, 60 and 100 times as much as was planted.Mark 4:1-8 (NLT)

God has given us the task of reconciling people to Christ. Don’t think you are unworthy to do so, don’t be afraid. Christ blots out our sins because God was in him reconciling the world to himself. As Ambassadors of Christ we have been sent to plead with others “Come back to God!” His plan is for a remnant (holy seed) of faithful followers. We can gain encouragement from God’s promise to preserve his people when we are faithful.

The parable written above is a way Jesus taught people and to truly let the people hear what he was deeply saying. To truly hear His words means to believe The Word of God, to use them immediately in decisions and attitudes and to base every aspect of your life-family, work, financials, recreational, and prayer life based on the word of God.

  1. Footpath- represents those who hear but Satan takes it away at once

  2. Shallow soil- represents those who receive word with joy but no roots and fall away as soon as problems or persecutions occur

  3. Thorns- represents those who hear the word but word is crowded out by life’s worries or our desires of wealth, money, sex, drugs, alcohol so no fruit is produced.

Fertile- sprouts, grows and produces and multiply 30, 60 and 100 times over and represents those who hears and accepts and produces. “So get rid of all evil desire behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience…Cry out for this nourishment now that you have a taste of God’s kindness. You can understand the Kingdom of God. Farmers carry seeds and plants for the nourishment of the temple of body. We carry God’s Word to plant and nourish other‘s soul and hearts for the Kingdom of God.1 Peter 2:1-3 (NLT)

Be blessed,
